The College of Arts and Sciences and the university’s Division of Public Relations and Marketing Communications offer a variety of photo and video services – some free, some for a fee.
Faculty and staff (no students) can schedule a time to get a professional photo taken by a university photographer for free. The form will ask you for the name of your communicator. If you work in the College of Arts and Sciences, your communicator is Ann Claycombe.
Neither the college nor the university provides free event photography services. If you would like to pay for a photographer to cover your event, you can file a request with the PR/MarComm division. If you have questions about booking a photographer, please contact the senior University photographer, Meg Buscema.
Our departments and units often need stock photos, especially for their websites. Please be aware that you may not take photos off of other sites and use them, because it’s a violation of copyright law.
There are several sources for photos that will not cause you copyright problems:
- The Digital Asset Library is a collection of images taken by the university photographers that are available for department and unit use.
- Freeimages is exactly what it sounds like, an online collection of images free for your use.
- Wikimedia Commons is a collection of images that are available under the Creative Commons copyright. Creative Commons is an alternate form of copyright that allows you to take an image and use it without paying if (a) you work for a nonprofit – a public university counts – and (b) if you credit the original photographer.
Video of lectures and events
If you’ve got a lecture or a guest speaker that you’d like to have video recorded, please file a request with the IIT department at least a week ahead of the event.
Major in a Minute videos
The PR office makes and updates the college’s Major in a Minute videos. These short videos – one for each major – discuss the skills majors acquire, the careers they go on to, the opportunities they have, and more. If you would like to have your department’s Major in a Minute video re-made, or if you’re in a program and you need your first Major in a Minute video, please contact Ann Claycombe to file a request.
Other video projects
The PR Office – as its schedule permits – produces short videos profiling specific students, faculty, donors, and research achievements. If you would like to pitch an idea for such a video, please contact Jon Watts.
If you have questions about what we do, or you’d like some advice on how to shoot video yourself, please contact our college videographer, Jon Watts, by e-mail or at 404-413-5144.
